The Texans kick off their first home preseason game of the 2013 season against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday August 17th at 7PM. Before you head out, there are a few things you should know about the new security measures the NFL has put in place.
The NFL has implemented a new change to the bag rule: it states that only transparent bags no larger than 12x12 inches will be permitted. That means no purses larger than a clutch will be allowed in the stadium, sorry ladies, but you can say hello to transparent plastic, vinyl or PVC bags, all of which will be allowed inside stadiums.
The Texans sent NFL-approved plastic tote bags to season ticket holders, and the first 50,000 fans to attend the first pre-season game will get free one-gallon plastic tote bags. If you want to buy one, you can get it NFLshop.com.
“Our fans deserve to be in a safe and secure environment,” said Jeffrey Miller, NFL vice president and chief security officer, “Public safety is our top priority…” The move increases safety at stadiums and makes the checkpoint at the gate a fast, but efficient one.
The only exception to the rule is for people bringing medically necessary items into the stadium, and each stadium will have a separate entrance where medically necessary items can be inspected.
Blankets, binoculars, cameras, and tablets are still permissible, but only if carried in a transparent bag. Below is a list of non-permissible items:
