Food News: A Doritos-Flavored Liquor Has Officially Been Invented

Doritos-flavored liquor has officially been invented and will be available to purchase next month for $65.

You know you've got a sophisticated palate when you're reaching for a shot of this: Doritos-flavored LIQUOR is now a thing that exists.

A spirit company in Denmark called Empirical is behind it. They partnered with PepsiCo, so it's an "official" Doritos liquor.

It's supposed to taste exactly like their Nacho Cheese version, and it's 84 proof. So, 42% alcohol. That's a little stronger than your average 80-proof liquor. They're calling it an "uncategorized" spirit, but it's basically cheese-flavored vodka.

So does it actually taste like Doritos? According to people who've tried it, YES, it's pretty close. They infused it with actual Doritos.

It also smells like them. A writer for "Food & Wine" said it has a "bouquet" that's, quote, "brimming with the unmistakable tang of cheese dust." They thought the aftertaste was a little more like Fritos than Doritos though.

The evil genius behind this is a former chef named Lars Williams, who co-founded Empirical. He's actually been making Dorito-infused booze for years.

It started when an employee came back from lunch with a bag of them. Lars saw the bag, wondered if it was possible, and started experimenting. He's been making small batches since then for friends.

They announced pre-orders would start today at 9:00 A.M. Eastern. It's not clear how many bottles there are, but we assume they'll sell out. It's $65 for a fifth.

Today is National Ice Cream Day

On National Ice Cream Day, which takes place on December 13, you probably won’t hear the ice cream truck, with its delightful tune, roll through your neighborhood. (There’s another National Ice Cream Day in July for that.) Your favorite ice cream shop may even be closed for the season! But it’s still a perfectly good reason to get a pint or three (who’s counting) of the good stuff to share with your friends and family.

And National Cocoa Day.

National Cocoa Day is celebrated on December 13 every year. Hot cocoa is typically made with cocoa powder, heated milk or water, and sugar. However, some also call it hot chocolate, which causes a bit of confusion. Hot chocolate is made by using ground chocolate containing cocoa butter. We can also make chocolate liquor by fermenting, drying, roasting, and grinding cocoa beans. After this, the cocoa butter is removed, and we are left with only the cocoa powder. This cocoa powder is used to make hot cocoa. It is a relatively healthy drink with very little fat and calories, depending on what you add to it.

Grubhub Says Everyone Is Ordering Salads with French Fries and Pizza with Pineapple

Do you ever order a SALAD for delivery . . . and then add on something that's ACTUALLY tasty? You aren't the only one.

Grubhub just released their year-end report, and one of the top trending orders was . . . salads, with a side of French fries.  (???) More than 600,000 customers ordered that combination . . . and French fries were the top ordered side dish.

The most-requested French fry style was classic cut, followed by waffle fries . . . cheese fries . . . sweet potato fries . . . and curly fries.

But people are NOT pretending to eat healthier by putting veggies on pizza. Grubhub's most popular pizza style of 2023 was: Cheese pizza, followed by margherita . . . pepperoni . . . buffalo chicken . . . and Hawaiian pizza.

And yes, that's WITH pineapple. Pineapple on pizza rose 33% since last year.

This year, over 53 million items were ordered with HEAT. The most popular SPICY orders were: Spicy potato soft tacos . . . spicy chicken sandwich . . . spicy tuna roll . . . hot and sour soup . . . and drunken noodles.

As for drinks, the top five sodas were: Diet Coke . . . Coke . . . Sprite . . . Dr. Pepper . . . and Ginger Ale.

And people were NOT concerned with drinking coffee too late. Over 10 million coffee beverages were ordered after 5:00 P.M.

And this is random: Orders of PICKLES were up a whopping 89%. In fact, Grubhub says, "pickles, an individual ordered item, had the largest increase since last year."
